BELLEFONTE – When it comes to the traditions of Bellefonte, there are several that come to mind.
At or near the top of the list is the Bellefonte Historic Cruise, which will take to the streets of the county seat this weekend. The annual event always takes place on Father’s Day weekend and this year will be no exception. Events begin today and continue through Saturday evening. The event will take place rain or shine.
On Friday, the streets will fill with cars for the “Open Cruise” which allows everyone to stroll through the streets of Bellefonte. Grab a lawn chair, sit on the sidewalk and watch classic cars flood the streets.
Following the “Open Cruise” The Bellefonte Diamond will transform into a 1950s style Sock Hop. “The Return of Buddy Holly” will take the stage beginning at 7:30 p.m. The longtime tribute band will perform all of Holly’s greatest hits, including her top 10 hits. “It will be the day,” “Oh man!” and the classic “Peggy sweats.” Holly, of course, was tragically killed in a plane crash with the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens on February 3, 1959. This date was immortalized in Don McLean’s hit single. “American Pie.”
This will mark the first appearance of “The Return of Buddy Holly” at the Bellefonte Cruise.
On Saturday, the streets will be filled with hundreds of cars, motorcycles and just about anything else with wheels.
Cars (and everything else) will line the streets from dawn to dusk. The Beach Party Boys — a tribute band to The Beach Boys — will take the stage at 12:30 p.m. The tribute band consists of Andrew Canning on bass, Fernando Curcione on rhythm guitar, Guy Schryer on keyboards, Jeff Scott on guitar Solo and Marco Spadafora. to the battery.
The members of the Beach Party Boys have known each other since the 1990s and officially started touring just over a decade ago.
The Beach Party Boys will perform a plethora of songs from the Beach Boys library. Achievements include “Fun, fun, fun” “I move” “California Girls,” “Wouldn’t that be nice?” “Good vibes,” and of course, “Kokomo”.
As if cars and music weren’t enough, the Bellefonte Cruise will have a market. The market will feature items from The Pampered Chef, Faces By Leah (free face paint), Opulenza (sterling silver jewelry), Beach Bound Creations, Krazy Mom Krafts, Tastefully Simple, My American Made Craft, and S&E Candles and More.
There will also be a food court with many local favorites. Some of the restaurants in downtown Bellefonte will offer food and drink specials, as well as sidewalk seating.
