After splitting from Florida State and reopening his recruiting into football, Chandler Hamilton’s senior quarterback Nicco Marchiol found a college home in West Virginia.
Marchiol announced his engagement on Saturday on the occasion of his 18th birthday.
After the recruiting deadlock was lifted on June 1, Marchiol made a few visits to colleges, including Arizona, Michigan, and West Virginia.
“I think it’s a very good choice for him,” said Marchiol’s QB personal trainer Mike Giovando. “He’s going to have an opportunity very likely to play as an incoming rookie, so it’s always good to get on the pitch early if you can and gain that experience.
“He can throw it and execute it. He has a great leadership capacity. Very easy to coach, very intelligent. He will take the attack very quickly.”
Marchiol helped bring Hamilton into the Open Division playoffs and after returning from a shoulder injury that caused him to miss the first two rounds he almost helped secure a comeback victory over the five-time reigning state champion Chandler, losing 23-21 on a failed field goal.
Marchiol is a mobile, physical left-handed quarterback who can make plays with his legs, extend plays and perform all throws, including the deep ball.
