Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 recently joined Machine Head frontman Robb Flynn on his podcast “No Fuckin ‘Regrets With Rob Flynn” and revealed the one and only time he had been drinking alcohol in tour. You can watch the video below.
“The only time I had a drink – the alone time – were we on tour was that [Marilyn Manson’s] Mechanical animals tour, and Pantera would always come, âhe said. âAnd it was really late, so I was in bed; I was curled up [in my bunk] sleeping. And we had to go to the next town. And they were, like, ‘Okay, we’ve got to go.’ And [Pantera guitarist ‘Dimebag’ Darrell]’s, like,’ I’m not leaving until we’ve done another shot. ‘ And so they were, like, ‘Okay, let’s do another shot.’ He’s going, ‘Go get it [John 5]. He must shoot. [They were, like], ‘He doesn’t drink.’ [And Dimebag said], ‘I’m not leaving until he gets out of here and shoots.’ And so I had to get up – because I wanted to go too. And it was that ‘Black Tooth [Grin]'”, said John 5.
“This ‘Black Tooth Grin'” refers to Dimebag’s signature drink, named after a saying from Megadeath’s “Sweating Bullets”, which was “essentially a double hit from Seagram’s 7 and a double hit from Crown Royal thrown on of ice (or not) and splashed with just enough Coca-Cola to give it a dark shade, âaccording to Blabbermouth.
“So I drank that and thought I had been stabbed in the stomach⦠But that was the only time I had a drink.”
John 5 has just released a new solo album, Sinner, via Big Machine Records.
