Kanye West silent on Instagram as ‘Donda 2’ album fails to drop

Kanye West went silent on Instagram on Tuesday as his 11th studio album 2 was supposed to be released, though the social media platform has served as the rapper’s go-to medium for the past few weeks as he sent unpredictable and fast-paced messages about his new music and ex-wife Kim Kardashian West.

West announced last month that 2 would be posted on Tuesday, although all mention of the date has since been deleted from his Instagram.

Almost all of the posts have been removed from West’s page, except for two that promote his $200 “stem player” device, a portable music player that lets users manipulate the sounds of a song and the only platform 2 will be available on, West said last week.

West began selling stem players last year, and users who already have one will be able to download the new album from West’s website onto the device.

Although the album has yet to be released, tickets for Tuesday night’s live listening party for the 2 from Miami, IMAX presents Kanye West: Donda Experience Performance 2 22 22, are sold in IMAX theaters across the country.

The listening party, which is being held at LoanDepot Park Stadium, is still scheduled to premiere in IMAX theaters at 9:00 p.m. EST and on StemPlayer.com, according to the devices’ verified Instagram account.

Large number

$1.3 million. This is the amount of money West claimed to have made last week in sales for the stem player within 24 hours of his announcement 2 would not be available on streaming services like Spotify or Apple Music. In a since-deleted Instagram post, West claimed he turned down a “one hundred million dollar” deal with Apple to release the album on his own device.

Key Context

Stem players, which allow users to manipulate different aspects of a song, such as its bass or vocals, can be loaded with any music, not just West’s. The rapper, who legally changed his name to Ye in October, is known to have worked on his albums right up to the time of their release, and usually delays his releases for several weeks and sometimes edits the works after they are released. Last summer, West announced several release dates for his album donda before it finally launches in August. The rapper hosted several listening parties for the album, live shows in which he and sometimes other artists featured on the album performed, or just listened to the new music, while a live crowd heard the songs for the first time, all of which were streamed on Apple Music.

West has taken to his Instagram account for the past few weeks to post his reaction to the rumored romance between ex-wife Kim Kardashian West and comedian Pete Davidson and their co-parenting relationship. The rapper has also started feuds on the platform with Kid Cudi and Billie Eilish.
