‘Legacy ride’ ends with donation in honor of deceased Sheffield officer

SHEFFIELD, Alabama – Local biker charities will tell you that few have made a better difference on vacation than the late Sgt. Nick Risner of the Sheffield Police Department.

“He was really instrumental in making sure the kids in the community had a great Christmas,” said Macey McBride, Bikers Against Bullies Shoals chapter member. “Children for him [were] great weakness.

The shallow bikers gathered at Riverfront Park on Saturday to raise money for Shoals Angels. Members of Bikers Backing The Blue said Risner was a big contributor to the Christmas charity.

Participants then took part in a commemorative motorcycle ride to the Sheffield Municipal Building to present a check to the charity, with Lt. Chris Tate receiving the $ 2,505.

“He spent every year around Christmas, most of the time taking out his own pockets to make sure the other kids were having a good Christmas,” McBride said. “He was going to get bikes and things of that nature, so we really wanted to make sure we continued what Nick (did).”
