Jamaican record producer Rvssian has announced the passing of his father, Michael ‘Micron’ Johnston at the age of 81.
In a heartbreaking Instagram post today, the 33-year-old producer honored his father’s life, detailing the honorable man he was.
Rvssian, as the founder of Head Concussion Records, followed in his father’s footsteps as an entrepreneur and promoter of culture and music. Gain popularity after producing Vybz Kartel’s Sweetness of life in 2010 and Straight and fitted jeans, Rvssian has since worked with international artists such as Shaggy, Demarco, Juice Wrld, Post Malone, French Montana, Tyga, among others.
Still believing his father for his love of music, Rvssian told the Jamaica observer in 2014 that it was his “old man” who pushed him to join the company. “My father played the guitar and the piano. He allowed me to use his equipment until I saved and bought mine, ”Rvssian said.
In the Instagram post, Rvssian shared a video of his father lying in a hospital bed with a tracklist for an album produced by his father and family photos of a young Johnston and Rvssian.
In mourning, the producer wrote: “Daddy, I love you
“You were 25+ years ahead of everything. For raising me vegetarian
Rvssian continued, “There aren’t enough tears for what I’m feeling
Michael Johnston has had a long career in the music industry. Gained fame in the 1970s thanks to the production company he jointly ran with Ronnie Burke, known as Micron Music Ltd. Its last release was in 2011, titled, Jammer with Mikey J, an instrumental album of 16 tracks. Rvssian was also instrumental in making the album as he played bass and wrote Dancehall Rhapsody.
Micron Music’s biggest project was Negril, produced by Johnston, an instrumental album by famous American jazz guitarist Eri Gale.
