Rakesh Jhunjhunwala’s net worth increases by more than Rs 10000 cr QoQ; Star Health and Metro Brands shares were instrumental in a billionaire investor’s rise to fortune


Billionaire investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala has added over Rs 10,000 crore to his net worth sequentially through his stock portfolio as of January 27, 2022, according to data from terndlyne.com. During the September quarter, the celebrity investor had a net worth of Rs 23,535.0 crore, the data revealed.

The drastic increase in his fortune was due to the listing of two companies – Star Health and Allied Insurance and Metro Brands. He holds a promoter stake of 17.5 and 14.4% respectively in the two companies with his wife Rekha Jhunjhunwala.

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala along with his wife Rekha Jhunjhunwala and associates hold 37 shares with a net worth of over Rs 34,160.4 crore as per company holdings filed for the December quarter, trendlyne.com has revealed.

The ace investor bought additional shares in two Tata Group heavyweights – Titan Company and Tata Motors by 0.2 and 0.1% respectively. In addition, it also purchased an additional 0.1% stake in another Tata Group-backed entity, Indian Hotels Company.

On the contrary, the investor reduced its shares by about 1% in chemical company Jubilant Ingrevia, gaming company Nazara Technologies and metallurgical company PSU SAIL during the December quarter.

He also cut his shares by 0.6% in TV18 Broadcast and 0.3% in Aptech, in which he holds developer stakes during the December quarter, in line with the companies’ shareholding scheme.

The stake of investors Prakash Pipes, Prakash Industries, The Mandhana Retail and TARC fell below 1%, according to the latest shareholding chart for these companies available on the BSE.

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, who is also referred to as the Big Bull of the Indian stock market, has remained in at least a few dozen companies in his portfolio. The ace investor also manages asset company Rare Enterprises and tends to favor stocks in the financials, technology, retail and pharmaceuticals sectors.
