While there are plenty of compact survival tools out there with all sorts of awesome features, sometimes it pays to keep things simple. Taking that approach is the new Sharp-n-Spark, a lightweight camping tool that focuses on doing just two jobs and doing them well.
The Sharp-n-Spark was conceived by designer and inventor Anatoliy Omelchenko, who focused his attention on two fundamental principles when it comes to surviving in the wild, making fire and maintaining a sharp knife.
The two-in-one tool features a collapsible design with a pair of rods connected by a hinge mechanism at the top, with a carabiner hole for easy transport. One rod is ceramic and is designed for knife sharpening to ensure the user can pick up wood chips and kindling, and the other is a magnesium and ferrocerium rod for processing it on fire.

Fire ignition functionality has become a common feature of modern multitools, as seen on the credit card-shaped M.020, Fire Escape carabiner tool, and Swiss army knife attachments, to name a few. cite just a few examples. But for some, all those extra on-board tools might be overkill and at 2.5 oz (70g) and just 5.25” (13cm) long, the Sharp-n-Spark presents itself as a sleek and portable solution. less is more.
Early pledges start at US$25 on Kickstarter for the Sharp-n-Spark Survival Tool, with Omelchenko looking to ship in August 2022 if all goes according to plan. You can watch the presentation video below.
