For all the freaks, high school hijinks, and sci-fi shenanigans in Stranger Things, the show’s true star has always been and always will be its epic soundtrack.

From the second the series hit our screens in 2016, it filled our lives with classic 80s hits, rejuvenating forgotten gems and breathing new life into timeless classics, both as part of the plot and also to establish the period.

This is especially the case in Volume 1 Season 4, which recently debuted on Netflix and revealed that music is the only thing powerful enough to save the victims of the episode’s resident villain, Vecna.

Kate Bush’s iconic 1985 hit, Running Up That Hill, which rescues Max (Sadie Sink) from the clutches of the monster, quickly soared the Spotify and iTunes charts after appearing prominently in the sci-fi drama series at Netflix success.

Bush recently spoke about the song’s significance on Woman’s Hour on Radio 4 in light of the track’s new, younger audience.

“I really like people hearing a song and getting what they want out of it,” she said. “But originally it was written as the idea of a man and a woman interacting with each other. Just to feel what it was like, on the other side.”

Speaking about how the song was originally going to be called a different name, she added, “It was called ‘A Deal With God’. I think they were just worried, the record company, that it wouldn’t be aired on the radio, that people would have the impression that it was a sensitive title.

Of course, Bush isn’t the only major performer to feature in Season 4 – with The Cramps, Baltimora and Ricky Nelson also featuring in the hit Netflix show’s newest run.

So while you wait to find out what songs our heroes are calling for help against Vecna in Season 4 Volume 2, read on for everything you need to know about the Stranger Things Season 4 soundtrack.
