NEDERLAND, Texas – About 100 members of the Nederland High School group are heading to Washington DC next month to help celebrate the centennial of the Lincoln Memorial.

The Dutch group was the only Texan group invited to participate in the Lincoln Memorial Centennial from April 21-24, 2022.

The 100 students will spend several days in the nation’s capital visiting sites such as the Smithsonian Museums, the Ford Theater where President Lincoln was shot, the Peterson House where Lincoln died, the National Archives and, of course, the Memorial of Lincoln according to LincolnMemorial100.org.

Band members will perform as part of “America’s Lincoln Centennial Massed Honor Band and Choir,” according to the website.

They will perform on Saturday April 23, 2022.

The cost of the trip will be around $2,000 per student according to group director Greg Rose.

The group takes donations and sells sponsorships that start at $100 to help defray the $200,000 cost for students and their families.

Group members will wear shirts with sponsor names or trade names during the trip.

If you would like to make a donation to help the band make the trip, you can send a check payable to NHS Band.
