A prototype Apple Watch was shared on Twitter recently which revealed an additional feature that could have been added to the smartwatch lineup, but it never saw the light of day. The additional port at the bottom of the device would have allowed the connection of a “smart band”, which could have added a new sensor to the watch.
So far, every Apple Watch series comes with a hidden port that has been used internally by Apple employees to test the device. This Series 3 watch however comes with two additional ports.
9to5Mac was able to contact Zompetti and get some more details about the prototype of the device. According to him, Apple was experimenting and working on a special sensor that would have added blood pressure monitoring to the Apple Watch, but this could only be achieved through a “smart band“. Unfortunately, the prototype is not fully functional and it is known how exactly this functionality might work in practice.
Apple may have experimented with some âsmart bandsâ in previous revisions of the Apple Watch S3.

This seems to align with a patent filed by Apple and revealed in 2017. When the Apple Watch Series 3 was announced that same year, it came with a blood pressure system that was possible thanks to a sensor built into the watch itself. even. The prototype was probably only used for testing purposes, but that makes us wonder if a “smart band” could be a potential new accessory for the Apple Watch line, or potentially for an Apple Watch Pro line, because Apple seems to really like to use it. during the last years. Of course, all of this is just speculation for now and plays with the idea.
What do you think of the Apple Watch Series 3 mystery port? Would you buy a smartwatch with a bracelet that could add extra features, maybe longer battery life? Let us know in the comments!
