Australian batsman Travis Head will miss the Ashes’ fourth test against England in Sydney next week after testing positive for COVID-19, Cricket Australia has said.

Head would remain in Melbourne and be isolated for seven days, making him unavailable for the next test starting on January 5.

“As part of our testing procedures, we test players, their families and our support staff daily by PCR,” said a spokesperson for CA.

“Unfortunately, Travis returned a positive COVID-19 result earlier today. Fortunately, he is asymptomatic at this point. We expect he will be available to play in the Ashes’ fifth men’s test in Hobart.”

Mitchell Marsh, Nic Maddinson and Josh Inglis have been called up for additional coverage.

Australia have already won the five-game series after victory in Melbourne gave the home side an unassailable 3-0 lead.

Head was instrumental in winning Australia in the first test at Gabba, scoring 152 points on 148 balls.
