WESTLAKE, Ohio – The Westlake Recreation Center is a hub of activity throughout the year. As summer activities intensify, the Rec Center, 28955 Hilliard Blvd., Westlake, will host a series of concerts in addition to the normal recreation programs. The concerts will take place at 6.30 p.m.
On July 11, Billy Morris and the Sunset Strip will play 80s music. Yosemite Slim will perform country tunes on July 18 and Bennie n Masterpiece will perform Motown, disco, funk and rhythm and blues music.
Swamps of Jersey, a Bruce Springsteen tribute band, will perform on August 1. We are the Radio, a cover band, will perform in the final concert on August 8.
Those attending concerts are reminded to bring a blanket or lawn chair. Food trucks will be on site for those who wish to purchase refreshments.
Bay Events: Here’s a look at what’s happening in Bay Village this summer.
The BAYarts Thursday Market is open from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. every Thursday at the BAYarts Campus, 28795 Lake Road, Bay Village.
The Friday Food Truck event will feature Thyme Traveler and Smooth Rider at 11:30 am. at 2 p.m. on July 9 in the parking lot on the west side of Town Hall, 350 Dover Center Road, Bay Village.
The Bay Village Police Station will be holding a Red Cross blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 11 at the Community Hall, 28000 Wolf Road, Bay Village. To make an appointment with a donor, call 800-733-2767 or visit redcross.org.
The Portersharks will perform traditional Irish music at a free BAYarts summer concert, 7-9 p.m. July 11 at the BAYarts campus, 28795 Lake Road, Bay Village.

How is your garden: Judging is ongoing this week through July 8 for the annual Westlake in Bloom contest, weather permitting.
Award categories include Hilliard Boulevard Flower Box, Evergreen Cemetery Memorial Fence Garden, St. John University Hospitals Medical Center / Town of Westlake Community Garden, Adopt-a-Bed Garden, Large yard, small yard, residential landscaping, apartment, community garden, retirement home / assisted living, place of worship / institution, vegetable patch, shade garden, planters and Lu Walter Best in Bloom Award.
Registrants will receive an invitation to the Westlake in Bloom 2021 Appreciation Reception and Awards Ceremony on August 13 at the Eileen Humphrey Auditorium at the Westlake Community Services Center, where the winners will be announced.
In Libraries: The Rocky River Public Library will be offering a program on the Internet Safety: Mobile Device Safety series at 10 a.m. on July 9 on the Zoom platform. Registration is compulsory. It closes two hours before class and a Zoom link will be sent to those who register online or call 440-333-7610, Ext. 5503.
RRPL will also be offering an intermediate level course on the basics of using an iPad at 10 a.m. in July on Zoom. Attendance at the iPad 1 course or equivalent experience is required for the session. A fully charged iPad or smartphone is required for the course, which will teach you more about using email, calendar, web browser, contacts, etc.
This course is divided into two online sessions presented via Zoom. Register online or call 440-333-7610, ext. 5503 to receive Zoom instructions.

At the Westlake Porter Public Library, 27333 Center Ridge Road, Westlake, children ages 6 to 10 are invited to an American Girl Doll Club reunion at 2 p.m. on July 11 at the library – weather permitting. Face masks are mandatory for ages 2 and over. A decision as to whether it will be in person or virtual will be made 24 hours in advance to allow time to collect supplies. If the session is virtual, a Zoom link will be sent to all those who register.
Students in grades 7 to 12 can enroll in a Zoom in Board Game Building program. Supplies can be picked up during library hours of July 13. The group will meet on the Zoom platform on July 20 to show their projects and enjoy board games. Registration is required for the Supply Kit and to receive the Zoom link on July 20.
Kids from Kindergarten to Grade 6 can register for the annual Egg Fall event to celebrate engineering during STEAM week. Kits are picked up during library hours on July 14 at the Youth Services counter – minus the raw egg. Entrants should return their creations by 4:30 p.m., announcement July 18, and then join Facebook or YouTube for the egg drop event at 11 a.m. on July 22.

Plan ahead: The Westlake Historical Society is collecting items for its fall garage sale, scheduled for September 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Clague House Museum, 1371A Clague Road, Westlake. The rainy date will be September 19. The sale supports the work of the company.
Donations for the sale can be dropped off at the Clague House Museum or call 216-848-0680 to arrange a pickup. Donations are tax deductible. Volunteers are needed to help with the sale.

Summer concerts: The Rocky River Summer Concert Series begins at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Rocky River Park Pavilion, 0250 Beachcliff Blvd. The concerts are free and open to the public. Parking is permitted on residential streets from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on concert days. Participants must bring a blanket or lawn chair. In case of rain, the concert will be canceled.
